A national nonprofit for veteran accessibility
The Accessible Legion Fund helps American Legion posts and VFW halls remove physical barriers, so veterans with disabilities, older veterans, and anyone with mobility challenges can take part with dignity and independence.
Our mission
We help American Legion posts and VFW halls remove physical barriers so veterans with disabilities, older veterans, and people with mobility challenges can participate with dignity, independence, and a full sense of belonging.
The Accessible Legion Fund stands as a dedicated resource for individuals and communities seeking financial assistance for accessibility improvements and services. With over a decade of experience in supporting accessibility initiatives, we are committed to breaking down barriers that hinder participation and growth. Our proven partnerships with local nonprofits ensure that our funding solutions not only meet immediate needs but also foster long term change. We believe in a future where every person has equal access to community resources, and we are here to provide the guidance and support necessary to make that vision a reality.
Our work began in Ohio, where we have spent more than a decade supporting accessibility initiatives alongside trusted local nonprofit partners. That foundation shapes a national vision: to help posts and halls across the country open their doors to every veteran who earned a place inside.
No eligible veteran should be prevented from participating because a building cannot accommodate their mobility needs.
American Legion posts and VFW halls are far more than buildings. For eligible veterans and their families, they provide:
The work
Every building is different. These are the kinds of accessibility improvements our funding and guidance help make possible.
Level, well lit entryways and gentle ramps that make the front door usable for everyone who arrives.
Lifts and elevators that connect every floor, so a staircase is never the reason a veteran stays home.
Accessible restrooms and clear interior paths of travel that let members use the whole building.
Proof of impact
Our first major project is complete and in daily use. It shows what focused fundraising, community partnership, and thoughtful design can do for a post that had been closing itself off to the veterans who needed it most.
Featured project
The post building has a multi level layout that made parts of the facility hard to reach for older veterans and people with physical disabilities. Working with community fundraising and local partners, the project added an operational elevator along with entrance and restroom accessibility improvements. The elevator is in use today.
For posts and halls
If your American Legion post or VFW hall has stairs, a narrow entrance, or a restroom that cannot accommodate a wheelchair, we can help you plan a way forward. Tell us about your building and your goals, and we will follow up.
Eligibility and program details are being finalized and will be confirmed with you directly.
